Had my car on the track the other day and the pins removed themselves from the caliper. I figured it was heat and stress as I was driving the car pretty hard. Got some replacement pins to get me home. Worked fine for about 500 highway miles. Drove it to work today, and coming up to a stop sign lost the caliper again!
Any reason this is happening? Warped rotor? Damaged pads? Ungreased pins? Is this a common occurrence? Is there a “fix”?

You didn't mention year but it's likely safe to assume fronts on an '88+? You're likely 'missing' the retainers or haven't done the install correctly!
There are two slots on the pin to install the clip. The innermost is for the non-HD brakes. Are you installing the clips on the inner or outer slot?
I had a 94 that lost a clip and started walking out the pin but after replacing the clip it’s been fine. Suspected it got knocked out after hitting a pothole.

i had the same thing happen to me years ago right after i put new pads on and they were a well known brand, not a set of cheapies. seems that the backup pad was the culprit, they were not up to par with the stock pads. the backup pad was thinner than the gm pads which allowed the rear pin to let the caliper rotate about the front pin whenever the brakes were applied. went back to a gm pad and never had an issue since.
Pads were the culprit. For one, uneven wear from limping it to a mechanic shop. Two, the wear on the pin side of the pads was letting the pin fall out after a few miles.
Seems to hold together. Also, theres only one pin holding the caliper to the bracket. The clips that are attached to the pads help keep everything aligned and in position. Those were gone too. Horrible design GM. Thought I’d look at the other side for help... it was cotter pinned and wired down! :0
Used by GM for the C4 '88 through end of production '96 AND ALSO FoMoCo for the performance Mustang Cobra '98 - '04. 1LE Camaro (many years) GTA Turbo F/bird and others.
