I'm looking at the CompCams 07-306-8 cam for the top end kit. Here are the specs... 290/307 (230/244@.050") .550/.580 lift (w/1.6rr) on a 112 LSA. Is anyone using this cam? I'm planning on using AFR 180cc heads - think I'm going to have any problems? Any "gotchas" I should be concerned with? TIA! :)
Thanks for the replies guys. RedyGo - valve to piston clearance is the thing I'm worried about. I surely don't want to grenade going down the track! Anyone else with some advice? :)
it should do the trick, i am running a solid roller on AFR heads and my cam has .608/.613 lift and 242/248 duration on a 112LSA, no problem with P2V. so i am sure you will be fine.. thats on a stock engine too so same same. what springs are ya planning on running? i am not impressed with the springs AFR installs on their heads.. just make sure they are able to handle the lift on the new cam!
lcvette - sounds good, I was a bit concerned with the P2V clearance issue. I'm not sure about what springs I'll run (or should be running for that matter). Any suggestions? :)
Half Fast - Just checked your sig and it looks like I'll have a similar setup. How is your idle? It definitely looks like I'll be upgrading the springs and retainers. Any preferences?
Speedracer176 - Yep, I'm planning on going with at least a 3000 if not a 3200 stall (I get one free stall adjust with the Vig).
Mine idles around 950 and you can definately tell there's a cam in there. I like the Competition Cams dual springs with titanium retainers to keep the weight down. Which spring will depend on how much lift you go with.
Trust the pros, fill out CompCams "cam recommendation form" completely and give them a call. You can find the form on thier website. Certainly worth a few minutes on the phone with people that have ten times the experience of everyone on this forum combined. Best of luck.
The 306 cam is great, works on 350 as well as 383/396 engines well. If I didn't live in an area where emissions were a concern I would go with that cam in a heartbeat!
