Does anyone know the width of the L98 crank pulley? I'm interested in the dimension between the face that butts against the harmonic damper and the face opposite it. I'm trying to figure out how to put a trigger wheel between my harmonic damper and the pulley, and I'm hoping a pulley meant for a short water pump engine might give me the space I need. This one says it's 2.5" tall, so I'm hoping the stock pulley is just a smidge wider.
Although my engine is not stock, I'm still using the l98 pulley....mine is pretty easy to get at, I can measure it later today. That being said I know there isn't a lot of room in front of it.....
I'd think that anyone with a 14055116 STPD AMC I believe could most easily measure on a bench for accurate height. A snapshot would allow the OP to maybe be more clear in the dimension he's most interested in..
Is there a version of the trigger wheel that you can find which mounts onto the rear nose of the harmonic balancer? If so, there is significant space available there between the balancer and the timing cover on my motor...maybe yours also...
I get 2.4 on mine. The step on the back that sets in the balancer is recessed into a hole in the aluminum plate so the measuring surface is flat against the back of the hub.
I get 2.5" also on my stock one - '89 L98 motor...

Thank you!
That crossed my mind. I have a double roller timing set, so it's a little tighter, but that might work if I can find a good way to mount it. I'd probably just have a machine shop cut a keyway and the right size hole into the trigger wheel.
