Hello. Yes I did a search but still not sure. If I install hedman headers on my 85 will the stock Y pipe slip on the headers after cutting to size? Thank you
Although I have no direct experience with what you are trying to do in this particular application, there’s two things consider. Will the cut factory pipe fit properly on the header collector, and will the cut factory pipes even line up to the collector position. Worst case is you’ll have to fabricate a short extension to make the transition. An exhaust shop could do this pretty quickly I imagine

Thanks John. I was asking the same thing but with a lot less words. No fabricating or exhaust shop for me, that"s why I'm asking.
There is no direct bolt on solution that I know for the Hedman Hedders, what I ended up doing (1986 with ZF) was cutting off the collector flange, welding on a couple of 3" tubes, and connecting to the TPIS Y-Pipe... of course you are better off purchasing the TPIS headers and Y-pipe if you can wait as that is a direct fit... and there are a few other places with complete exhaust systems direct fit.
I use PipeMax software for engine building and exhaust system sizing, and for header length, collector length, etc the Chevrolet crate engine information is right on the money (primary length, collector length, dual pipes all the way down)... although not too many headers are made with long enough collectors, this would be the guide I would recommend trying to match. The Hedman Hedders are fine primary diameter wise for the TPI and for more low end torque (1 5/8), but for more RPM/displacement/power the 1 3/4 primary with dual 2 1/2 + system should certainly be better... American Racing carries them, if I had to do it all over again, that's what I would have done.

Thank you.. That was some very good information you gave me and now I know. Your a good man.
