Default 1985 distributor questions

I put a new pickup coil on the distributor and putting it back in the little clamp thats forked i dont remember which way the forks pointed up or down. I put it on there with them pointed up and the base of the distributor not the rotor moves freely left and right.Have i done something wrong?

The clamp needs to pushed toward the distributor so it is riding on the raised distributor base. You have to loosen the bolt and lift the forks up over the base.
