Does anyone know of any suspension mod that would help stiffen the leaf springs and prevent wheel hop on launch?
I understand that the purpose of the corvette is not for drag racing, but I have friends who take part in events at a drag strip and I would love to join them, provided I won't stand a chance against some of their cars.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Are you planning on using something other than street tires? Manual or auto car? If auto the Dana 36 doesn’t take kindly to hard launches. The wheel hop may be the least of your worries in the long run.
Drag racing is very hard on drive trains. Corvettes, unless using heavily modified drive trains, tend to want eat things like universal joints, half shafts, differentials, etc.
Best advice is to find a local road or autocross course and challenge your buddies to compete against your Corvette. That is something your car will excel at.

First, the C4 is a GREAT drag racing car in stock form. Very drivable...very reliable w/reasonable maintenance.
Second, the C4 doesn't have a problem with wheel hop. Especially compared to later cars like the C6. If you're actually experiencing wheel hop, then I'd be replacing shocks and looking at suspension bushings. Car shouldn't wheel hop at all.

I'd be real careful about rear spring changes. You might want to call one of the manufacturers for their advice. The early 84's optional suspension worked on the skid pad, but the car drove like a truck. Guys were switching their rear spring to the 85 spring for more comfort.

Yeah, the 84 base and 85 Z51 are about the same if memory serves... there was a list of all the spring rates on this site. I'll link it.
