I bought a c4 a year ago and it has been in various states of running. When i first got it, it would start fine and run but once you shut the car off it took 30 minutes before the car would start again. Then one day before last winter i unknowingly broke the previous owners vats fix. So this summer i came back to it checked the codes, the only codes it has shown are code 12(it flashes the code 3 times) then it shows code 46(flashes code 46 3 times then goes back to code 12) The research i did told me it was a vats code so i looked up a youtube video of someone fixing their vats system and followed it. I soldered in a resistor that matches both keys i have for the car. The vats code still shows up. I have disconnected the battery to try and reset it but it keeps coming back. But i dont think the car has a vats issue because the car still turns over, has spark and gets fuel. Youtube video have been leading me down rabbit holes. So this weekend i replaced the spark plugs(they were dirty so i replaced them)and fuel pressure regulator( the regulator was bad because i smelt gas in the vacuum lines) and it still wont start. So my next plan of attack is the fuel injectors. I spent all afternoon ripping the plennium off so i could remove the injectors. The injectors looked like they were all in various states of disrepair, so i ordered all 8 of those today. Does anyone have any advice on getting this car started again?
sorry if that was alot to read i just wanted to be very thorough with everything i have done to the car and the problems i am having.

You've done the hard work of taking the intake apart....why not now, find out if your injectors are actually working? Pull 'em out of the intake (still in the fuel rails), support the fuel rail/injectors elevated, ensure there are no sources of ignition, then crank the engine and watch the injectors fire. Do they all fire? About the same? Good cone patterns? There is your answer regarding the functionality of the injectors w/no guessing.

I would have started with spraying starting fluid to see if it starts or not. If it runs, I would suspect a fuel issue. If not I would look at the spark.
Where did you get the injectors from and what size and type? Do you have Bosch or Multecs? Why do you think they are in various states of disrepair?

thank you for the advice. But after getting that far i was set on putting new fuel injectors in because i know the factory ones are a point of failure. But i got it all put back together and it still didnt start. So i went back to vats as my main issue. The first vats attempt i did a few weeks ago did not work. Turns out the set of keys i have for the car are not the original keys. So i found a table of all the vats resistances and start meticulously going through every single one on the table. Today i finally found the right resistance. The car started first try never even missed a beat, even after sitting all winter not started. So looks like I am gonna start buying front air dam parts(one is missing and the middle one is broke) and hood latch cables(they were also broke when i bought the car) and get her on the road for the first time since i have owned her.

I did spray starting fluid down it last year trying to get it to start. It did not work very well. Like, sometimes starting fluid would make it start and sometimes it wouldnt. I did look at the spark after that and all cylinders got spark.
I do not know the size of the injectors i got. The car had the Multecs in it, but i changed them out for bosch.
Whenever i took the fuel injectors out 7 of 8 of the tips were solid black instead of the pinkish color. The O-rings looked really old and worn out too, so i just ended up replacing them. It all worked out in the end. Turns out it was a vats issue all along.

Thing is that for injectors, you really need to know what the exact size is. Unlike *****, bigger isn't better. You see, the ECM is set for a certain constant and it assumes that is what you have. You can change it but if the ECM doesn't know, it can't make calculations that are accurate. O-rings are like condoms. You don't, or at least, I don't reuse. They could have been black because of the heat which might be normal.
Do you lubricate the o-rings before using them? I used a bit of lubricant when I installed mine to keep them well sealed.
I also like to check for ground wires going to the Injectors. The insulation on some Corvettes just crumbles in your fingers and that has got to be a problem if one of the negative wires going to the injector gets grounded to the frame.
