Hello, I have a 94 zr-1 base model and I’ve almost fully completed my restoration but I have an issue with starting likely the fuel system. When I crank the car it’ll take two try’s to get it to start and after it’s been running it will not start at all. I’ve change the fuel pump and for that matter the whole module and the filter I’ve also changed the relay for the pump and no changes I’ve also changed everything in the engine bay that has to do with fuel so I’m assuming it’s maybe an ignition switch or some wiring but I no longer have the money to keep doing trial and error please help thank you
First, Welcome to the CORVETTE FORUM C4vettebaron!
I apologize but have no experience with the ZR1 model Corvette. I am however a okay mechanic and an Engineer by trade so I am a good troubleshooter!
How old is the battery in your Corvette? Maybe remove it from the Corvette and then charge it up completely (until it gasses) and then clean the connectors and re-install the battery. I had a voltage drop in my C4 and it slowed down the fuel pump and took a little longer to start. After cleaning the parts and verifying the fuel pressures I finally found my voltage drop. I fixed it and the car can start faster now. A bad cell in a battery can do the same thing. In my case it was dirty fusible link connectors that pushed the voltage down by close to 2 volts.
If you can do it easily then try and supply full 12 volts to your fuel pump wiring harness and see if the pump cranks faster. I would also check your ground straps as the one might not be connected anymore. I found a loose one under my C4 and after fixing it my radio's Power antenna started working again.
I realize that this is a shot in the dark but it might help you anyway.
No I haven’t changed the battery in a while and it probably doesn’t help that the new radio and speakers are ran directly off the battery, once I get home I’m going to do all of that and see if it has worked, thanks.
