If my car was putting out 450rwhp/600ft.-lbs. of torque at the tires...would this KILL my D36? I'm not talking about running drag radials/slicks/cheaters. I'm just talking about running everday 275/40 17's.
I would bet money that it wouldn't last more than 5,000 miles. I'm running a 100 shot on my LT1, putting down 380 to the rear wheels. I never hit it off the line and not through the shifts. I grenaded my brand new 3.75's (Richmond) after 1 summer.
Would it break? yes. How long until it broke? Good question, considering you are still going to use 275 street tires, your tires should break loose pretty easily, releaving the stress off the rear-end. However, street tires can still get good grip, and some aggressive launches on your part with that much torque will turn that D36 into chiklets, so it would just be a matter of time. I personlly think it would be a waste of time...why have that much power and need to baby the car because of the rear-end?

Because it's gonna take all the money to build a motor/tranny to MAKE/HOLD that kinda power. :D The rear end will come later...I don't plan to launch hard on the D36 with that much power. (Well, I actually will..once I have the D44, so if the D36 DOES break, I can R&R immediately.)
I'm in the same boat with ya..
Just started installing my Vortech on the vette..
I ran 13.5's with the engine not running as good as it should have (vacuum leak, fouled plugs, timing messed up), so I should be in the VERY low 12's if not high 11's with everything running well..
Rule of thumb is if you or I put slicks or ET streets on the cars, we can kiss our rear end g'bye. ALmost guaranteed.
I'm planning to 'learn' to launch and easy into WOT until I can swap my rear for a D44..

"Modify it until it breaks and then fix it again"
How many of us have done that?
Guilty. :yesnod:
I really think you should make the car tougher than it is fast...that means putting a D44 in before hotrodding the motor. It looks good when you blow that punk ricer off the road...but then you look pretty silly when he passes you and your dead car on the side of the road waiting for a trailor to haul it to the shop.
