So Ive been chasing gremlins in my 95 for a hot minute as Ive had time. Last year I had an opti failure and havent driven the car since.
I put a new Accel opti in it...and swapped the sensor to a mitsubishi sensor I had and loctited the screws. No start. Weak spark, new coil. No start. ICM just due to age. No start. Hell with it, lets do a fuel pump too, its original. No start. I eventually verified fuel, fuel pressure, spark into and out of the opti, and injector pulse and the most I would get was a slight burble.
I did manage to fix a number of small issues like grounds, vacuum lines, etc... I remember thinking it might be the PCM.
Then I pulled some plugs and realized most were still dry as if there was no fuel on them, except for two.
I started tapping on injectors and now it idles...if you want to call it that. All of them read 12.3 ohms across the injectors, it would appear that they arent opening. She does fire on starting fluid.
I was considering just making a quick rig with a momentary switch and a 9v battery using an old injector connector, priming the rail and clicking it back and forth until I noticed fuel pressure drop and the audible 'click' of the injector. Does anyone have any better suggestions on how to make these cooperate? I figured this might be the safest way to do it since fuel is, well, flammable.
I do have a new engine coming together, so Id rather not replace these if I can avoid it. The new engine is 24x so no more opti issues after that. These injectors are original, but it only has 120k on it. Im just trying to enjoy it for the rest of the year until Im ready to do the swap.
I've never heard of getting injectors working again, that have winding issues. 12. 3 ohms, although consistent from what you say, is low, I think.
What about bone-yard injectors for the short term? I needed some for the 'Vette Kart when I bought it. Only 3 of it's injecotrs worked. I went to Pick n Pull and got 8 Buick 3800 injectors (same lb/hr rating as TPI 'Vette). $6 each. Thing runs awesome and put down 240 RWHP on a 240 crank rated engine. So....that's a totally viable option.
Please change the fuel pressure regulator. Your 95,like my 96 is way past due to need replacement esp with that ethanol crap we pump into it. It made a huge difference and fixed the same issue you have been having
Since you have not driven in a year time is not really important. Pull the injectors and send to FIC to be cleaned and checked (unless original then replace). Rhandle is correct I just changed my regulator and tore it apart. It was cracking bad but had not failed. Did you do fuel filter?

I already did fuel filter and regulator. Im going to reseal the rail when it comes off too.
Im looking for a more oem set of these things from a reputable source. So far...ouch!
Be really careful inducing any voltages on your Injectors. They should have 12 Vdc with the key in the "Run" position all the time. The computer pulls them to ground and completes the circuit allowing the injectors to do their thing. People using test lights with batteries in them can make a mess of the ECM in a hurry if you are not careful.
Use NOID Lights to test your injector harness and verify that each injector is working.
Your injectors are showing consistent but the low resistance has me wondering. FIC can test them for you if you want to pay to know "How" bad the injectors were. I have also used a company called South Bay Injectors out of NY and their prices are very good. Take a look at their website.
What are you tapping the injectors with? I like a Five Pound sledge hammer myself but it might be a bit much....
P.S. Thanks for serving the United States of America! I appreciate your service!! WE should all appreciate your service!
I used FIC for my ‘91 L98 injectors.
Great service. I even got a human technician on the phone when I had a question.
He was even grumpy which told me he knew his stuff!
If, by tapping them that they seem to "work" you can try fuel injector cleaner, There's 2 ways, one where you hook the can to the fuel pressure port, and block off the return line. The other is to add it to the tank, then try to run it like that. Just make sure you buy the professional stuff, not what you can buy at retail stores.
