Default Fuel pump install

Hi everyone, I am installing a fuel pump in my 89 6 spd. I have it in the tank. The problem I am having is the sending unit is not flat on the tank gasket. I have to put pressure on the flange so that it is flat. I don't recall ever having this problem with a fuel pump install on my other Corvettes. In fact I did this car 5 years ago. So, is forcing or pushing it down the right thing to do. The screen is in the correct orientation. I just don't understand what is going on. This is the same sending unit. All I changed is the pump. Thank you

I just hate to force it in place.

What orientation did you put the sock? The factory sock on mine, the orientation of the long part is pointing towards 1:30 when standing at the back of the car looking towards the front.

I'd think you shouldn't have to put pressure on it unless something got bent while it was out. Maybe the float is hitting the yellow box in the bottom of the tank?

I checked the sock. It is oriented correctly. I think the float is good. I tightening the bolts. I'm just going to see.
Thank 3

What orientation are you saying is "correct"?

Good question. The sock is parallel to the boat. The boat runs front to back. And the sock is doing the same.
