Default Water Pump Replacement Questions...

Getting ready to replace water pump on my 96 LT1. It has 29K miles and started leaking (rusting through) on the underside. Bought replacement unit from dealer and have a couple questions.
1. What type of RTV sealant should I use?
2. Should I use the sealant on both sides of the gaskets, or just one? Which side if one?
3. Should I use an anti-seize compound on the bolts to the block?

Any other comments/suggestions from anyone else that's done this would be appreciated.

Rick

1. I just use sensor safe black RTV.
2. I put it on both, see other thread.
3. No, you want to use teflon paste as two of them go into a cooling jacket. :)

I have replaced mine and taken it off about 4 times for access. I use High temp RTV on both sides of the gaskets and on the bolt threads and have not had any leaks or problems removing the bolts. Hope this helps.

I used black hi-temp RTV on both sides of the gaskets, let them set till cured.

I used thread sealant on the bolts. They go into the water jacket so they definetly need something.

Wow, 29K on your water pump. How lucky can you get?

You might also consider an electric pump.
