I'm trying to find the best deal on a 383 rotating assembly for my vette. It will NEVER see above 6k, but it will see a 200hp NOS kit. I'm trying to keep it right around $1000 for all the parts (including bearings/rings/gaskets/bolts): CRANK:
Can be Cast, but must be 3.75 with a 5.7 rod, also 1-piece rear seal PISTONS:
MUST be forged, want to have around 10-11:1 with a 60cc head. RODS:
Can either be H or I beam, doesn't matter, must be 5.7
So I talked to my friend who builds circle track motors, and he said if I bring him my bare block, he'll clean it up and bore it .030 over, and he'll also put my rotating assembly and heads/cam/timing chain on, all for $2000. So I figure if I can get the rotating assembly for $1000-$1500, then I'll be good to go. The heads are gonna be $1100 from a friend, and the cam will be $325 (LPE 74219), and the intake will be like $1000. So I figure that I'll be outta this new motor right around $7000 when the smoke clears. Then onto the tranny :D
ok, what do I search under?
I was actually asking for suggestions on parts, aswell. I found a decent 383 rotating assembly for $870 (minus fastener bolts/balancing)
Re: Need help choosing a rotating assembly (vader86)
you are right out there with the guys from speed o motive, Larry Performance and PAW. If your budget is $2K for rotating assbly, you can go all forged. Scat or Eagle with cast cranks in the $1200 price range.
