Default Trick Flow Heads?

Anyone ever use Trick Flow G2 Twisted wedge heads for sbc? I'm going to be building a new engine and desktop dyno said they would be about the best. I was just wondering about quality. Has anyone had any problems? As far as aftermarket heads I have only ever used Edelbrock. The engine I'm building is an all aluminum Donovan 350/400 small block. I got it off ebay. I already have the crank and a few other little other things. I'm not sure if I will go TPIS Mini-ram or Edelbrock tpi intake and runners with a ported plenum and 58mm TB. Anyway thanks for any advice.

From what I understand, the valve geometry on the TF heads makes it somewhat of a pain to set up. There are other heads with standard valve geometries that will flow just as well as the TF heads. Compare the major manufacturers....Dart, Brodix, AFR, etc....and all will have a high flow SBC head that should compare nicely, without some of the other headaches.

If you're dropping the serious change for an aftermarket aluminum block, get a serious set of heads to match it...

I used the G2 Trickflows when I built the 383 for my '89. My engine builder recommended them. We talked about some of the problems I had heard about Trickflow in the past but he stood behind these heads and said they had worked out the problems. When I sold the car I never had any problems out of them & I felt that they made good power. The new owner visits the forum occasionally so maybe if he sees this he can let you know who they're holding up.

I agree, the second generation of trickflow wedge heads have corrected the weak valve guides and whatever else was prone to fail. But you DO still have the alignment/geometry issues which would require some detailed study to do right (I said what the helll and took the 23 degree heads. Very similar flow, great price, and CARB approved). But I'm a cheap bastard who didn't want to take chances (on sucking fomething up during assembly).

Let us know how this build goes- sounds like a wet dream waiting to happen

Well this is the story with this build up. I got the block cheap. It was just a really lucky find. I want to go 23 deg on the heads. I have never heard of the alignment problems with the G2. Are they 23 deg? If not then AFR all the way. The cam will be a custom hyd roller from Comp cams.
Cam specs
220 in duration at .050
230 exh
113 lob sep
110 center
lift .510 in
.520 exh
Should make a good street cam. The cool thing is this block only weighs 85 lbs. It's 4 bolt main on every cap even the end two. A few problems I don't have the end caps, and it needs a lot of work to the block yet. One thing that will save me money is I am building it myself.
Desktop dyno says650hp and 900lb ft of torque with nitrous
450hp 575 lbs ft. without I could live with that

I've been running Trick Flow's Center-Bolt, Twisted Wedge Heads since 1995, on my '86 Vette.

They make awesome horsepower, and the geometry issue should be a very easy task to figure out.

Why not e-mail Trick Flow, and ask them a few questions to aleviate any concerns you may be having. (techinfo@trickflow.com). I'm sure Trick Flow can help you out with the push rod/geometry issue. Just provide them a little bit of info about the cam and lifters you plan to use...and they'll figure out whether or not you need to purchase a set of push rods...and most importantly..what the correct length should be.

I wanted different heads then those that my friends were running, and I haven't been sorry in doing so.

See my signature.

Good Luck with your choice.

John
