My cluster is bad--sunburnt badly--but appears to function just fine. Where can I find info regarding making the repairs myself. As a last resort I will send off for repair but each lens runs about $125 each according to advertisements I have seen. Anyone repaired their own with lessons learned--or don't attempt this repair. Guess the real issue is where do you find the replacement items?
You don't. No one will sell them, and the people that do the repair won't say who they get them from. None of the salvage yards I talked to sold them either. They all sell them to the repair shops. If you watch ebay or the parts for sale section of the forum and are patient you can pick one up. I bought mine about 3-4 months ago from someone one here for $100, I just have to put up with it flickering every now a then.
From the looks of it you are doing the same thing to your 84 that I am trying to do to my 86.
Just some quick info for you....
Check out Corvette Fever Magazine's web site....under tech. questions....there is an item there that will help you tons......... http://www.corvettefever.com
Many of thier tech items have helped me on my '84..
Must go where some info is available to help....every little bit comes in handy....

OK here is the info on cluster repair http://www.batee.com/corvette But if everything is working and you just need to replace the displays because of them being sunburnt then thats are harder problem. First I think some of the displays in the 84 are different then the rest of the years. (Fuel) I would start looking on ebay or in the C4 parts section or Corvette Junk yards for someone selling a whole display. I have found that the shops repairing the clusters will not sell you just the display for any price. Good luck.
Thanks to all for replying. I have not read the articles yet but will. I believe with some patience and luck I will find a cluster somewhere with good lenses? I have a 90 and know that the instrumentation is totally different at that point. I actually think the 84 might be unique display compared to 85 and 86 too?? Do any of you know if the face lens is separate from the backlight readings or how it works--I just have to believe this is a racket repair business. Don't read me wrong here, I realize that a guy has to make a buck for his knowledge, skills, sources and experience---oh well, not the only item that is expensive in this corvette arena.
If you happen to find an 86 or newer model cluster I've got a 84 cluster in my 86 right now that I'd swap you for. It doesn't fit quite right with the different bezel and I like the look of the 86-89 cluster better anyway.
oh and there really is nothing to these things they come apart and go together pretty easy.
