1986 Chevy corvette won’t start
Battery health and connects, is battery Charged and are the connections clean and tight.
If these are good then try shaking gear shift into park and same in Neutral positions to rule out Park/Neutral Switch.
This is going to sound odd but are you using same Ignition that you have used in the past incase the VATs chip is Damaged or missing.
You may even want to check Resistance of key chip then insert key and check Resistance @ VATs plug at base of Column. Remember if your VATs gets a Bad Reading even for a Split Second it will do its job and Disable the car for about 10 Minuets

Do you have a factory service manual? If not, get one. It's a must have item.
Welcome to the Corvette Forum!!
This site is incredible with the number of professional grade trouble shooters on hand. But knowing What Year Corvette is happens to be VERY important. This site works best when you take your time and spell out the problem with as much detail as you can put on paper.
We have "Profile" section where you put down the year and model Corvette, the mileage and ANY modifications.
When we know more about your particular Corvette we all work better with as much detail about your issue.
Like mentioned above by the two gentleman you have several basic things to do so we know what you are up to. The comment about having a set of the Factory Service Manuals is critical when owning a Corvette. On the 1988 C4 it is made up of two books that are the FSM. One is the Mechanical systems and the second is the Electrical systems. They have troubleshooting information that you will not find in a Chilton's or Clymer's or whom ever's aftermarket guide.
Give us some information like manual versus 700R4 and the basic information in better detail and we will help you resolve the issues as quickly as we can.
This IS the Place for Information regarding your Corvette! I am glad you are here with us as you will share your knowledge with us someday!
