I heard there's pros and cons to this idea. Will it help me and at what speed. Or will it feel like I lost power. I'm about to install my new flowmaster mufflers and I was thinking about the precats. I have an '96 lt4.
Re: Does gutting the precats on an LT4 help (D SHARK 9)
There are no precats on an LT4. Those big barrel cats are the main cats. The thing in the center is a resonator.
You might want to see what the cats cost ($$$) before you gut them. You'll also need to program out the aft o2 sensors (or buy o2 sims) to avoid setting the SES light. If you have emissions testing to pass, it's likely the car will fail.
Re: Does gutting the precats on an LT4 help (96GS#007)
Go with the Random Tech high flow cats I did in my LT4 and I love them , as far as gutting them I think its not worth it . Your emmisions will change and maybe your state my not pass you at inspection time .... :yesnod: either way good luck
Re: Does gutting the precats on an LT4 help (D SHARK 9)
Iv'e heard that if you want to eliminate the cats, get a pipe and put it in the cats place so there is no turbulence caused by the can shape of the inside of the cat. One thing is that the car will be LOUD with out cats and flowmasters. I was surprised how much louder a similar car to mine with no cats and corsa exh. :seeya
