My car shuts off when I’m driving it. It can drive perfectly for 10-15min but then shuts down as I slow down, the car recently overheated but I have fixed the cooling system but the car is still shutting down. If I try to start it back up the engine seems to be coffing and then starts if I add power. It runs fine in park but as soon as I put it into drive it shuts back down. Anyone know anything? My mechanic shop couldn’t find the reason…
How long have you owned the car?
How many miles have you put on the car since you bought it?
How did it run before it overheated?
Have you or your mechanic pulled any codes from the ALDL?
It would be interesting to see what happens to the fuel pressure when the car shuts down. If you can hook up a fuel pressure gauge to the shrader valve on the fuel rail and if it has a long enough hose you can tape the gauge to the outside of the windshield and then you can see what happens to the FP when the engine stops running. I'm thinking a clogged fuel filter or a fuel pump that's starting to die.
I’ve owned the car for about 3 weeks, before it overheated it was running just fine, and the car runs in park. But after I’ve driven it for around 15min it shuts down and when I start it back up it chokes a bit and is on and off. When it starts it runs in park but shuts off when I put it into gear.
was thinking it might be something with the ECM so was thinking of replacing that?

When slowing down to a stop and the engine dies, does it kinda gets a little jerky before the car comes to a complete stop? Almost like forgetting to depress clutch pedal on a manual car when coming to a stop? I'm thinkin TCC in trans isn't releasing.

No, the car just stops, but it doesn’t happen all the time, I can drive the car normally for 10-15min. When I stop it then nothing happens, but after 15min it wil completely stop when I slow down and will struggle to start after that so I have to leave it for an hour or two.
was planning on changing the fuel pump today and see if that does anything. Will let you know
Maybe turn key on but don't start it for a minute or so and see if the fuel pressure will build up enough to run in case it is a matter of fuel filter being restrictive. It might get enough fuel back in the system to run when you put it in gear. You might try another mechanic, too.

So i just changed the fuel-pump and now the car runs even tho it gets over 185°F. But sometimes it chokes but when I give more gas it revs up and runs again. Is that because I did something wrong when changing the FP (changed the filter as well) or is it just because it’s a new pump and needs to run for a bit before it runs smoothly?
And also after I changed the FP and turned the car back in the RPM gauge did not work…? It doesn’t move at all but I know I put everything back together, anyone know why that happened and how I might fix it?

The car really isn't even warmed up until around there. I wouldn't start to get worried until it gets in the 230's and even then some people say that's normal
