i am assuming that your cooler has threaded fittings and you are using the correct fittings to mate to them. i normally use the teflon tape but if you go the paste route, make sure what you use is oil resistant.
Are they tapered fittings ? I ran into an issue in the past that Chinese junk tapered fittings were too small in size and didn't seal before bottoming out against the shoulder. We ended up turning the shoulder back so the threads could go in deeper to seal.
Teflon tape is such a wonderful product and it is so cheap today. I use it liberally and never think twice. I looked up the Hayden Oil Coolers and several showed the standard 1/2" Inlets and Outlets. Did they supply you with Hose adapters or anything? A lot of companies use flexible lines and these simple connectors.
When I am plumbing something of importance, especially things like coolant, oil or fuel connections I would always use either Teflon tape or a good sealant designed to work with these materials. You get everything ready to install and you wipe each part down or clean them if needed and then after dry you put the tape or sealant on the threads of the bolt. Sealant nor Teflon work very well on an Oily bolt so like to wipe them down and clean them with Brake Cleaner. I check both ends of the connection for cleanliness before I assemble them to ensure a good tight long-lasting seal.
Unless it is a "Banjo" Bolt in which case it would use extra washers to sealthe connection. Banjo Bolts work "great" as they use small brass washers that crush and "seal". The problem is a lot of people ((myself included, (Youthful ignorance 50 years ago)) Over-torque them and then they will leak. Banjo Bolts get no Teflon tape or sealant they don't need any usually. Banjo Bolts are more expensive so manufacturers would rather use a less expensive connection.
First and foremost thank you all.
So I realized the leak was because the fitting was not seating. So I went on a search for a longer fitting. I end up at a hydraulics shop. The technician says the fitting I am using is the wrong one. I need a fitting with a gasket, He shows me on the oil cooler where the gasket seats. So eight dollars later I am home and Tada. Leak be gone. AWESME!!!
Like I said ty all
Oh and I ended up using b raided steel line. My first Summit order did not work out. I called them again. The person that assisted me. Looked at the previous order that I returned. He said that this will work together. He was correct. So all sale assistants are not created equal.
