The 315 was meant to go on the 17x11” wheel not the 17”x9.5” wheel so it will fit but not maintain the correct profile. I am not sure if it will rub due to the sidewall protruding more due to the narrow rim. If you can find a set of 17”x11” rims then you have no issues.
Someone will be along to give you a dissertation on what you can and cant do and choice of tires.
The 315 is designed for a 11 inch wheel, for most 315s.
Some are real wide, some are narrow as the manufactures aren't either measure in a different spot or wherever they want.
Look at a Sumitomo 315 vs a Good Year Eagle F1 315 tire from a while back. And the Good Year vs a BFG KD, almost identical in width. Huge difference in width, but same numbers.
Some get that some dont..
But to make a long story short a 275/285 is meant for the rear 9.5 inch wide wheel currently on your 96.
And for the 96 you want a 17x11 with 50mm offset to fit best. The 17x11 with 36mm will stick out quite a bit.

Thank you for your responses.
I guess I wont know until I try it out.
I'm late to this party, but...you DO know, because multiple people are telling you this is a bad tire fitment. You can also just look up the tire manufacturer's recommended rim width for their 315 tires. I don't think you'll find any radials in that size where they recommend less than a 10.5" rim width. A 315 can be installed on a 9.5" wheel, but that doesn't mean it should be installed on a 9.5" wheel. If you buy and install these, you're like the guy who built his own steam-powered rocket a few years ago so he could see for himself if the Earth is flat or spherical. He died, you know...
