I have a issue with my alternator was getting really hot and not charging my battery. So I replaced the alternator and now I am getting a good charge to the battery but the alternator is still getting really hot. Hoping someone else has experienced this and can point me in the right direction. Thanks
How hot is hot? Can you smell the heat like its shorting out?
The alternator needs to be grounded as well. Dont know if its a case ground or not but easy to check. Old wires also come into play. They might look ok on outside but could be corroded on the inside. Usually if you bent the wires a little you can hear and feel if thats the case ( the bigger wires not the small ones)
Also look at the main ground wire to engine. Easy test is to take a jumper cable hook it to alternator case and to battery ground.

Mars, this is a long shot but may be worth checking out. A week before the 50th Corvette Museum Caravan (2003) I had my dealer do a radiator flush and fill. During the Caravan, my engine overheated and burned out the alternator diodes. It was towed to a dealer in Nashville who replaced the alternator.
The best thing the service tech did was to check the coolant. Air was found in the radiator hoses. My hometown dealer didn't burp the cooling system.
Sorry to be long-winded, but you might check for this.
