Default Replacing Hood Emblem

I'm having trouble getting the hood emblem off to replace it with a GM replacement. One of the nuts came off and promptly fell into the hood, never to be seen again. The other is spinning freely and not backing off. I know these nuts are designed to cut into the plastic-where can I get replacements? Any ideas/tricks on how to remove the stuck one?

Pull on the emblem while someone turns the nut and that should get it. If not, get in there with needle nose pliers and squeeze the nut a little to make it grip better and see if it will un screw. If its a plastic emblem and all else fails, snap the stud off from inside... As far as replacements, they are just speed nuts, id think Napa might have them.

Thanks. I'll try pulling on it, hadn't thought of that.

For the one that fell into the hood, as long as it's still open the chances are pretty good that it fell straight down. I would recommend a short length of fuel line hose or other hose that you wrap in masking tape (with the sticky side out) near the end of the hose. It can act like a flexible pick-up tool to get through the hole, bend downward, and use the sticky tape near the end to grip and lift the speed nut out. I don't know off the top of my head whether speed nuts are ferrous but they probably are - and if so you can tape a small magnet on the end of the hose and probably get it that way as well.

well now I got the old one off but can't get the new nuts to go on. It's got adhesive so it's stuck on there pretty good already but I was hoping to use the nuts as well.

It's better to thread the speed nuts on before installing the emblem, in other words, cut the threads first. I don't like the adhesive on the the emblems because I like to remove them and wax behind them from time to time.

for a good cleaning/polishing it's always beneficial to get those emblems off to do the job right.

Now I wish I hadn’t used the adhesive…
