My friend has a 1990 corvette 200 hp with 67 k and is planning to purchase a higher hp crate engine. I was wondering if I could put a carb and manifold and new dist and swap his old engine it into my 87 305 el camino and what would I have to modify.
Randy, you need to do some more reading.
his engine and your engine are probably the same externally except his is a full roller block with a roller cam.
his heads are aluminum with 58 cc chambers.
your heads are probably 64cc. But your intake will fit. There are no manifold heating passages, so you need an electric choke. That means: his engine cannot support EGR, without external exhaust transfer tube.
Keep your old engine even though it’s a flat tappet cam.
his oil pan is a corvette oil pan. It may not fit your elcamino. But you can’t use your old oil pan because the corvette engine has a one piece rear seal.
you can try a truck pan from 2000 with a vortec engine.
your elco has a crossmember under the engine..
the corvette does not.
good luck

Original '87 305 would be a 1 piece RMS roller block but in an EC came with flat tappet. Bosses are cast in for the roller lifter spider and cam retainer may/may not be tapped. 305 heads are usually 58 cc as well. Wondering if the cam has the eccentric for the fuel pump (usually later LT1s didn't I think) and the need for a melonized gear for distributor. Are you keeping the CCC Q-jet...that might complicate things with EGR.
