I was thinking of doing this soon and was wondering...after the swap, has anyone had any strange CPU problems? Do I need to get my CPU programmed afterward or is it not nessecary?
Reprogramming is waaaay necessary my friend. Gotta do it to take full advantage of the new found influx of additional air. Don't do it mail order either. Get it done right. Get it to someone that can program it on the fly. :steering:
I'll actually go so far as to say that you don't need any tuning with teh Hot Cam. If you're on a budget the tuning can always wait. The car will learn to idle and it will still make good power.
For example, a friend of mine has a 93 Z-28 that is very similar to my setup. The only differences at the time of dyno was that he had shortie headers and no program while I had long tubes and some programming. He made 327 I made 336. Now my program wasn't perfect but his was completely stock, I don't see that as just a whole lot of difference, considering he hit his rev limiter a coupe hundred earlier than I did and he's got shortie headers.
You need the tuning if you want every possible last drop out of your motor, but if you just need to be able to drive it, the tuning can wait.
