Default MT2500 scanner ???

I am thinking of buying a scanner for my 1988 C4 with an automatic transmission.I am looking at the Snap-On MT2500. What cartridges or cables do I need to have to use this on my car? Eventually, I am wanting to change out my stock TPI for a First system.
Can this scanner change settings in my ecu? I want to change the fan settings and do away with the EGR. Would I have to have a new chip burned. If this scanner can't do that, I don't need it.
The car runs very well now, but being 33 years old, I want to install new injectors and just clean up the engine some and the First intake looks good.
I have read posts about the APU1, but I am happy with the performance of the car as-is, but want to make a couple changes and can't see spending $300+ to change only a couple settings.
This might be clear as mud, but thought I would ask.

MT2500 holds 2 cartridges. You want the troubleshooter and cartridges specific to the years you are trying work on. Most of the time used kits come with multiple cartridges and diagnostic contectors. you want the books that go with them. You will want the GM OBD1 connector.
The MT2500 is a scanner not a tuner so no.it can't alter programming.

Thank you Kevova, that's what I was thinking, you can just look at the readings of different things to see if they are in specs.

Hello There c.w.moss!

What Kevova told you is correct.

I bought a SNAP ON MT2500 and it came with a boatload of cartridges. I bought it from the "For Sale" section of the C4's. The fellow Corvette Forum member sold it to me and I am very happy with what it does and can do. It is 1980's High technology and a bit outdated. Mine works with an OBD2 adapter as well as the OBD1 and shows me the details going on in my newer OBD2 engines. I have cartridges for many Asian Cars as well as the American cars as well. There is a Cartridge I am seeking that diagnoses and troubleshoots problems with the early Bosch ABS systems. I have heard it helps when you are flushing the brake fluid as well on the early ABS systems.

I have since purchased a set of OBD1 Cables and Bluetooth adapter for the systems from 1320 Electronics and am looking forward to learning how to use it. One way or another I will see what is happening inside the engine!

I wouldn't waste your money. When we had a shop back in the 90s we had one (two actually). For the time they were OK. You can buy a $35 cable and free software that is significantly better today.

Chris, I have never needed anything when flushing the systems on either my '87 or my current '86 brake systems. I have a Tech 1 with a master cartridge as well as the individual Bosch cartridge and have never needed to use either when flushing the brake systems.

Before my Tech 1 I had an MT2500. I liked it. It gave me all of the info I needed to support my car. Honestly, I do prefer the Tech 1.
