Default loud clicking or cracking noise upon initial acceleration.........

My car seems to have developed another problem......... Whenever i first put it in drive or reverse for that matter, as soon as i press the accelerator i hear a loud clacking sounds like something shifting positions. It then goes away until i stop again and start from another light. Any idea what this could be??? Thanks

Two thing come to mind,
1 check the motor mounts
2 check the trans mounts

Could also be a cracked flywheel.

Mine used to do that too, but then suddenly quite.......

Whoever suggested the motor mounts might be on to something, but it sounded like it was coming from the rear of the car......

But when I took my engine out last month, the passengers engine mount was ony held on with 1 bolt, to which I could turn by hand! :D

Sometimes when you hear a clicking sound that seems to come from the rear, it indicates worn U-joints.

Sounds like a bad U-joint. If its not the U-joint, check the wheel bearing. If the bearing is toasted, the rotor sits a little cockeyed and will make a snapping or creaking sound as the pads move off the rotor at a slight angle.

Check the 4 bolts on the C-beam. Be sure they are torqued to specs.

I had the exact same type of noise coming from mine (from the left rear side), started about 3 weeks ago. Turned out to be a bad Ujoint on the drive axle.

Everything above. One more that worked on mine - put a little bit of anti-seize on the splines of the stub axles.

:iagree:

It sounds unlikely, but putting anti-seize on the axle splines can fix the problem you are describing. I replaced wheel bearings, U-joints, checked everything but the noise persisted. I even removed the brake components to eliminate that as a source, because the noise sounds as if it is coming from right behind the face of the wheel. I finally tried the anti-sieze, and it worked. Made a believer out of me!

I agree with NavyVet. I had this same problem...a 'click' from the rear when I would go to accelerate. First guess I would have thought a U-joint.

Turned out the wheel hubs needed reoved, rust cleaned out of the spline shafts, and anti-seize applied to the spline shafts. I didn't believe it would work, but it did.

You mean as i am slowing to a stop and letting the brakes off when leaving from a stop?? My car does make that kinda sound and i have been trying to find out what it was.
