Re: 1984 Headlight motor problems. (EDMGUY)
I look at the site and did and did go over everthing but it still acts like it run out of power when it closes it its not the gears it just stops. :nonod:
 I am not an electrical guru
But I do know that there is some sort of "stop/limit" circuitry in the motor or in the power input, that senses when the motor has completed the up/down function and shuts off power to the motor. Otherwise the motor would keep trying to open or close the lights forever.
Sounds like you may have a problem where the motor is sensing a stop limit before the light is fully closed.
I would contact the "rebuilder" and explain the problem
The way the stop limit switch works is that the headlight rubber bumper hits its stop. Then the motor tries to keep driving. Since it is a worm gear, it pushes the motor shaft away from the gear it drives. That shaft then hits the limit switch to remove power. If there is any binding in the headlight or pivots that will cause the shaft to hit the switch and shut down the motor. Make sure everything is smooth and not binding.
Another possibility is the limit switch itself. If it is not getting a good contact it can be really intermittant.
Third but least likely is the thermal switch. I think this is a safety feature. If it gets too hot it will open and remove power from the motor entirely and it will not go up or down. This can also be intermittant.
Question; When it tries to close and hangs up, can you turn on the lights and get it to open again?
Try this; with the hood open, turn the lights on then off. When it hangs half closed take the handle end of a screwdriver and tap firmly on both ends of the motor and see if it starts again. :seeya
