Hi, I have a 1984 Vette and I want to install a coolant fan toggle switch? I just bought the car and it appears the car has been having fan issues? new thermostate, new fan temp sensor, new temp sending unit, new relay, I purged / bled the engine coolant system several times, checked for bad head gasket with kit that attaches to radiator that turns color if bad head gasket, cleaned radiator outside, flushed system. Somebody has been in here before...the new relay has completely new relay and wiring in which every wire is white? wtf? lol....the fan turns on with the AC turned on and more often then not, while the AC is off the fan will kick on but, most of the time it won't turn on and car overheats. It doesn't overheat with the AC on.
I'm getting tired of playing with this; I want to hook up a toggle switch to the fan, I would like the toggle switched wired to the car's ignition power on so, I don't have to turn the fan on and off manually every day but have the ability to turn off when I want it off? Since all my wires are white going to the relay; does anyone know a way to wire the toggle switch? I bought a 2 & 3 wire toggle switches? Any help will be appreciated!!

The fan kicks on at 228. Your car is not overheating unless the temp is much more than that
It is very simple. Just splice in a wire anywhere on the 355 route. Ground that wire thru your new switch. With the new wire grounded the fan will run when ignition is on.

Oh, I do have a wiring mess with my coolant system....I bought this car about 3 weeks ago. I still love it but, I have a wiring mess to figure out? Somebody that didn't know what they were doing messed this up? first off, my temp gauge doesn't work? Does anyone know the color of the single wire on the driver side that goes to the temp gauge? Here's a picture of my relay....somebody ran all white wires? I think I have a blue wire that is in the wrong place? Hmmm....I have a pic and video and if anyone has time, please take a look and maybe point me in the correct direction?

OMG! Bubba has been hard at work on that one to improve on GMs wiring. GL with that mess. Buy a 84 GM FSM that will have all the diagrams you will need.

Hi Dare Devil,
Fellow '84 owner and have been through the same problem before. A few things I can assure you 100% are as follows:
1. 1984 Corvette's normal operating temperature per FSM is between 190-255 degrees Fahrenheit.
2. 1984 Corvette's do not turn on their fans at 228. It comes on stock at 238 degrees +/- 5degrees.
3. You may simply have a bad fan temp switch screwed in not all the way. This one is tricky, as the switch needs to go all the way in. I tried doing mine in the garage without proper tools, and the fan would come on at 256 (because it wasn't screwed in all the way). Needed more time & heat to ground the internal switch.
4. Last but not least, the A/C system will turn the fan on when the pressure switch on either the Hi/Lo side grounds; this keeps the pressure where it should be, because the condenser is mounted right behind the radiator.

my 84 can with toggle fan switch. I changed out the temp switch and thermostat to run at lower temp. Fan comes on at 205 and shuts off at 185.

Hey Gene, if you send me an email to docwilcar@hotmail.com I can show you how I did my 84 fan set up. I tried to send you a message on this forum but see you do not allow messages! Greg
Be mindful that the fan(s) are not designed to be run constantly when your engine is running. They're not like the old constantly driven pulley fans. The life span of those electric fans will be diminished by running them steadily each time you drive the car. Trust me,

For what purpose? Why have a thermostat at all if you don't want heat
If you car runs too hot, there is something wrong with it. Putting a bandaid on the problem won't fix it
