So I sold my 89 convertible a couple of years ago. She was a burgundy auto that I restored. Loved her, but not a fan of automatics. So I just picked up a 92 6 speed in Bright Aqua with beige top/interior with the 3.45 rear. She runs great with the exception of the brake pedal is rock hard, she idles around 1000-1100 and feels like she doesn't have all her power. She slightly struggles to rev. So hopefully its a vacuum leak or something simple. The brake booster hose looks to be in good shape. I haven't had a chance to do the basic tests, but that is top on the list. I changed the brake booster on my 89, but it didn't solve the problem I had with that car. So I think I have a good OEM brake booster if that's the problem. Even with the slight hesitation she starts right up, sounds smooth and made a 500+ mile trip from Reno to LA last night. I flew in, bought her and drove her home. RPMs doing 65 were just slightly above 1500 and below 2000 to do 80. 2000 RPM was 85 mph. Got 27 MPG on that trip. Seems like she didn't have enough power to hold 65 at 1500 RPM on slight inclines. If she dropped to 63 she didn't have power to accelerate in 6th. Had to drop to 5th.
I'm glad to be back in C4. Now I got to get another set of convertible weather strip, fix all the little annoying rattles, broken latches, sticking key lock, get rid of the outdated bottom of the line alpine stereo that looks and sounds like a walmart one, etc.
I got a brand new Wilcox vert Wstrip kit in the parts section if youre interested.
Never liked verts til I had one..little more headroom and the roofline looks great to me. One day..
I tested the brake booster and it is bad. I put a vice grip on the hose and the idle dropped to 700 range. Released clamp and it went back up to 1200. Clamped and it went back down. The smog guy let it pass with the clamp on the hose, and she passed!
