Default 1987 Left side mirror fail / repair /replace

Left hand side mirror has broken retainers on rear so the four axis cross pin won't stay in. Mirror part apparently is not available from common sources and I don't want to buy an entire assembly, not yet anyway. I need any suggestions for repair, or replace. Or if anyone has this part that would be a start! I thought about using epoxy to hold in some clamps but before I go further, well, here is my post. Thanks

anyone have a good part like this available?

Default Field expedient repair successful

In the past several days I couldn't find just the mirror part so here is the FED, field expedient repair. I fabricated a couple hinges out of thin brass stock, mixed up some Loctite Quickset 5 minute epoxy and it's working as new. Most difficult is popping the other two trunnion ends onto the controller inside the mirror housing, I greased them with a lube called Slide Glide. When popping back into position you must be careful and accurate so as not to break the plastic retainers on the controller. I doubt it will fail again.

You must have been a Boy Scout or a Marine . lol . Nice fix ! When you worked on this mirror was it still bolted to the door or did you remove it ? I need to replace the mirror motor and wonder if that can be done without taking the interior door panel and mirror off . I think I can if I cut and splice the two wires for the heating element as the rest just plugs in . Any response is appreciated .

I pulled the mirror free from the mirror mechanism on the car. The reason it was broken to begin with was the mechanism that controls axis movement was loose, this was years ago, I removed the mirror several times over the years to tighten that mechanism, note: if you have to do the same use LOCTITE on the screws so it might only have to be done ONCE. The plastic tabs, well I broke them a long time ago snapping the trunnion back into place.
I'd be surprised if you could find a mirror motor as I couldn't find the mirror part pictured above, only the entire mirror assembly. I didn't want to buy the assembly just to rob a part off it.

YES, you could change the mirror motor without pulling the assembly off the vehicle IF you could deal properly with the wiring. I clipped and resoldered the mirror heater wires, no problem. 006 license to fix.

Thanks boneyman . Actually the mirror motor can be had separate from the whole assembly . I've seen them on ebay and bought one from Mirrock recently , but they are hit or miss when searching for them .
