I have 1990 , 6 speed convertible. Since owning it I’ve been very surprised with the gear ratio. You go very quickly through the first 5 gears, the rpm spools up very, very quickly it seems to me. I throughly enjoy it, no complaints . I thought I must have the G92 performance axle, but (see photo) my build sheet says 3:33. I was shocked. I thought maybe 3:07 would be the stock ratio.
In 5th gear, at 3,000 rpm I’m only going 56 mph. Again, very surprised. It’s a big difference going into 6th, definitely a highway mode.
So, if I have the standard rear axle ration for a 1990 6 speed, what would have been the “ performance axle ratio; the G92 option for $22.00 that 9,362 people ordered?
3.07 was never offered with an M6, 3.54 when introduced in '89, late '89 change to 3.33, '90 3.33 other than LT5/ZR-1 (3.45), '91 and later most are 3.45 with a few 3.54 scattered among them.
