Re: Need help replaceing 84 gas pedel (84corvette84)
The throttle cale just comes down and out of the top of the pedal. There are 2-3 bolts holding the plate down. Take that off first then stick your arm up to the top of the pedal and slip the throttle cable out.
Re: Need help replaceing 84 gas pedel (84corvette84)
This must be a more common occurance on '84s that I thought. When mine broke, I found a ball swedged onto the end of the throttle cable. Just ahead of the ball is a white plastic piece, that is full round, a part of the cable assy, that the ball seats into. The firewall side of the white plastic piece, necks down in size and snaps into the metal arm of the pedal assy. I know it is hard to get to, but if you hold the upper part of the pedal assy, with your fingers wrapped around it, you can use your thumb to apply side pressure to the white plastic piece, and "snap" it out of the hole in the pedal arm. The hole of the pedal assy (arm) has a slot running to the top, that allows the cable to be slipped out of the hole. The pedal is free. I attached the cable to the pedal, before I bolted it down, so I could move it around, some. The thumb side pressure didn't work for reassambly. The white plastic piece wanted more of a, straight in force to make it seat in the pedal. I can't remember exactly how I did it. Possibly, I was able to push it in with two thumbs (?), or I was able to get a small pair of plyers up there. I DO recall the satifying "snap" noise it made, assuring me that it was finally in. I think what probably took me hours, I could do in 10 minutes, next time. I hope I was able to put what I remembered, into words that are understandable to someone other than me. Good luck, and...
