Hello all, I had an issue with a $1,600 Corvette I just bought the owner told me it would start up and shut off after three to five seconds. It does do this still. I did the fuel pressure which is good plenty of spark everything seems normal it starts up perfectly fine idles beautiful and then shuts off after three to five seconds. Anyone have any ideas? Thank you in advance.
Have you kept the fuel pressure gauge attached to see if pressure is still being maintained when it starts to stall. Also once it stalls will it restart immediately?
Can you be a little more definitive on what you mean by "good" fuel pressure? The LT1 needs approx 40 - 42psi to work properly.
It would be informative for you to have the fp gauge attached to the fuel rail, have someone else start it up and then you watch to see what happens to the fuel pressure until the engine stops a few seconds later.

Yes pressure stays until failure. It runs approx 5 to 7 seconds then shuts off like you turn off the key.

Of course I did lol. 42 43 psi

change your fuel pressure regulator had same issues in my 96 and it fixed it
hello, why would a fuel pressure regulator cause it to just shut off after 5 to 7 Seconds? Other working on cars my whole life especially fuel injection I've never ran across that issue.

I believe you should still have pressure as long as the ignition is ON. "Stays until failure" tells me that your pressure dies.
Have you replaced the fuel filter? It may be clogged.

I have not done the filter. Simply because the prime pressure is correct and the running pressure is also correct. What i meant by failure was the car just cutting off. Must be something electrical because again it is just like you turned the key off.
I did smell the vacuum line to the regulator and it wreaks of gas, it may just be bad.
the regulator can break and send fuel into the vac line. When this happens it is over fueled and can cause lots of issues. Does the oil smell like gas?

Wasted $45 on a regulator and it did nothing lol. Oil does have a slight fuel smell yes. Back to the drawing board. I am afraid its going to be a fng VATS issue which is death lol.
I would not think this VATS at all...it simply won’t start or won’t crank. Is your security light on solid while you are attempting to crank?
i didn’t see mention in here but have you tried pulling codes?
it doesn't run long enough to trigger codes the battery went dead when I got it from the original owner. I don't think it's the Vats either cuz like you said it wouldn't even allow me to crank it. I'm going to put a new Opti in tomorrow I'm try at my friend as one said I can have for 40 bucks brand new so I'll give that a try. We need

When it dies does it fire right back up immediately? If not have you verified injectors pulsing/spark in this situation?
i would start testing things a bit more before tearing into it assuming opti. If it starts on the opti it should run more than a few seconds. Could also be ICM or coil. Maybe it’s not able to maintain spark (coils energizes Initially but not able to keep up). Coil would sure be easier than opti...so would ICM. you need to narrow down if your problem is fuel or spark (or both!) before throwing parts at it.

Well, when you have the amount of experience i have, you would know its the fuel pressure regulator

yeah my buddy Phil works at a Corvette restoration place he said he's going to bring the tech 2 scanner down and go over everything. And fires right back up immediately.
