Anyone have any idea what these devices located after both catalysators that you can see on the images are? Can’t find any information in the FSM or on the internet.
Of course I broke the one (at the drivers side) that needed to be removed get the exhaust off the car. We are talking about a standard 1993 C4 but Japan export so I guess it could be something extra added for emission regulations.
It seems to be a thin wire inside a tube and some kind of white insulation (powder/ceramic?), almost like a heating device.
Adding images of the device on passenger/driver side and the remains of the “tube” from the outside and inside of the exhaust. There also seems to be some metallic piece welded on the opposite side of the tube on the inside of the exhaust. Drivers side passenger side Inside exhaust Ouside exhaust
You very likely also have maybe converter 'temperature alarm' which those control. '93 EXPORT Converter parts aren't in most C4 SPO Parts Catalogs except for '94+.
Is the car still in the JPN market? You could get information from a GM dealer in the correct market.
I agree it looks like a Exhaust Gas Temp Probe or Sensor, See if there is a part number you could chase also see what the other end see what kind of plug and were it goes. See link seems they might have some insight or supply
The OP's car was built with these as an EXPORT - much depends on 'where' the car is 'garaged' at this time. If this car is in the USA it would be wise maybe to check PROM ID etc. The label from the ECM could work if original. OP hasn't returned to the thread with comments so ................... If in USA now maybe you just plug the ports and 'worry NOT'! What was the OP modifying or intending when he stumbled upon these?
With the VIN the OP could actually still very likely get info on the PROM using GM VIS which today doesn't seem to be working OR maybe it doesn't any longer but a GM dealer I believe could do the inquiry for the OP.
Thanks for your answers, definitely looks like temp sensor. Will look for information on a replacement, probably not an easy task since it’s not standard. Maybe better to see what’s needed to get rid of them.
No trouble codes when engine cold, cannot test warm right now.
The car is garaged in Sweden. I don't think there is something special regarding the ECM/Prom ID.
Im changing the differential and needed to remove the exhaust.

Well, I guess I will have to check more on this later, I will continue with my differential swap project.
I will check were the sensors are connected (wires going in through the footwell). Maybe I can just disconnect and forget about them or get the ECM-chip reprogrammed (not familiar on how to but i figure it out) to just ignore them if they are used at all, I actually have a Tech 1a with the Mass Storage Cartridge so maybe I can see if there are any data from the sensors there.
The Japanse export has some “specials”, ugly sidemirrors (they needed to be able to fold in) that I have switched to originals, no 1’st gear selectable on the AT (can be fixed by changing the shifter assembly or modifying it), fender flares on all 4 corners (the front ones removed on my car), and now those darn temperature sensors…

Is there any sort of light in the DIC that might light during the 'bulb check? On perimeter of the instrument cluster 'halo' is there any sort of hint of a light that might be used for 'converter alarm'. What ratio is the new rear? D36 or a D44?
I found another thread about exhaust temp sensor on export car and they talk about a visible warning (light), just a warning so it seems not to affect engine control hopefully, so now I need to figure out how to get rid of the warning-sound.
One strange thing is that I have never had the standard warning sounds in my car, seatbelt/door ajar alert and so on. The only sound I have is if I put key in on (before starting) I hear a 2 second high pitch tone, the same tone as in the video. Nothing I really care about but a bit annoying.
My car would have a high pitched tone coming from the passenger side foot well once in is while, I can't remember what fuse it was but I believe it was a 5 or 10 amp. So I would run the fuse box for loose or blown fuses
An EXPORT IP HARNESS is very different than domestic so maybe/just maybe there's currently a fuse dedicated already. If you find one maybe mention it and if it's on the fuse box cover maybe snapshot that.
