I think I may not have explained this good before . The Battery is new and charged up car runs great. I let the car stand for a few days covered because of the cold weather here . then I try to start it and it's dead. The alt. is good charges about 14.8 volts. something is shorting out but have no clue on what . any idea on where it could be ??
It would appear that you have an unwanted current draw. This is a tedious process, but it will lead you to the source of your problem. With the ignition off, connect an ammeter between the positive side of the battery and the positive cable. You should see a current draw. Pull, and replace one fuse at a time until the meter shows no current flow. That fused component is the source of your problem. The next step is to understand why that component is drawing current when not activated.
I'm sure you understand that there is always current flow to your computer, but it is minimal. What you are looking for is current over and above milliamps.
I agree.... start with aftermaket stuff like stereo or alarm also the courtesy light timer is a notorius problem on the 84s. Keep the bat and cables clean and tite too. Start and run car to charge system at least monthly bat should hold enuff charge to start car for like 40 days.
You can bet you have a drain somewhere....I know this from my '84....
Still haven't found it.......useing a disconnect switch, on the negative terminal....since I use this car holds the charge...
Just a thought...
