Default Radio problem on a 92 Coupe

I just started my 92 Coupe and found that the radio will turn on but no sound comes from the speakers. I inserted a CD and the same happens. Also the antenna stays in the down position and will not go up. Any help on this would be appreciated. Thanks.

It sounds like the control module is dead... but I can't remember if it is a seperate fuse or what. I'll take a peek in my service manuals when I get home. :seeya

I think that sounds correct as well. Your actual stereo is behind the passenger seat in the storage well under the carpeting. You can use a volt meter to see if power is being supplied to it.

My day is getting worse as it progresses. I decide to take the car out for a spin and find that in addition to the radio problem I now have a temperature contol problem. It doesn't work at all. I stopped and checked all the fuses and only 1 has blown. This one being the courtesy lamps. I tried to replace this fuse but every time that I insert a new one (proper 15 a) it blows. Now what? Thanks for the help guys.

Do you have a Helms manual? I'll be home later tonight and I'll check mine for the wiring diagram to see if these Items ( Radio, temp control and courtesy lamps) are on the same circuit. It may be a bad ground.

That is a clear indication of an electrical malfunction. I can't help much more with my limited electrical experiences.

I looked up your electrical system in the Helm's schmatic (sp)? and found the radio, courtsey lamps and temp control ( + other items) come off the fuse that keeps blowing. The fact you are blowing fuses says there is a probable short of power to ground. There are a couple of spots to check. email me and I'll go thru it with you...I'm gone on the 25th but will be home on the 26th if you still need help.

this sounds like a bad relay, perhaps.

the radio modules are in the dash and behind the glove box. I would be willing to remove the radio from the circuit. It might be a pain, but if the radio/module are fried, then the fuse would blow.

sounds like the simpliest first check. Tracking a dead short is nothing short of a pain.

Upon a little investigating here is what I found. I was going to pull the radio and temp contol unit out but decided to check underneath the passenger kick panel first. And what do I find......a mouse nest. The little bastich chewed 2 wires to the courtesy lights(kick panel) and they are touching causing a short. I am still working on it and I hope that this is the ONLY problem. I will take some pics and post them later. Thanks for all the help.

While the radio has a radio fuse, the courtesy fuse also supplies power to both the radio and the heater. You have probably found the whole problem. I wonder if mice get a tingle in their mouths when they bite into wires.
