The switch on my master cylinder broke last night while I was putting a new master cylinder on my car. Apparently these aren't easy to find.
My local parts store can't get it. Not even in the system. I see them some places online for $70. Any reason I can't just put a plug in there? It's an 87.

They aren't easy to find for sure. I broke mine as well. Luckily for me I realized it wasn't necessary. My car is LS swapped and the wire isn't actually connected to any thing. So mine is in there acting like a plug so I don't see why you couldn't just use a plug in its place. I guess if you have the original dash you might get the brake warning light.
It is just a switch, uneven pressure between the two sides will push it out of center grounding the wire. No fluid should leak out but i would plug it to keep dirt out in case you want to replace it later. You won't get a brake warning light as long as the wire is not grounded. The parking brake will still illuminate the warning light when applied.

If you care to 'test' just a plug M12 - 1.0 thread I believe. Is yours destroyed to where you can't even use as a 'plug'?

I'm swapped as well and have replaced my dash as well. I'm not concerned about the light.

It is leaking quite a bit on the old master. I figured there was small hole in the bottom of it but I confess to not removing it yet. The whole top is broken off and the spring is just hanging there. I'll take it out and clean it up and see what's up with it.
Mine was broken when I got the car, and I've just propped it in place with a pair of tiewraps. No big deal and everything still works, so don't worry too much about it.
There is a hole in it so it shoots brake fluid out when you press on the pedal. Mine is broken off completely. I will be putting a plug in there. Excuse the bad pic, I took it while the master was in the garbage can lol
I believe if you're anticipating a plug you need to consider the thread depth. Maybe count threads in the master cylinder being installed and match that or maybe 1 thread less.

Yeah, unfortunately I already bench bled the new on and it's on the car but I have a plastic plug in it that I will use as my guide for the new plug.
