on the 91 c4 it is a 5 pin sensor that connects to a tee by the distributor. i would inspect wiring before condemning the sensor. based on your question i suggest getting a service manual, or enlisting the help of a knowledgeable friend. it connects to the tee on the pressure port by the distributor just like most 1955-2002 sbc engines. the lt1 is no different in this regard.
in the picture the short sensor with 1 wire connector is tied into the fuel pump, it kills fuel if no oil pressure is present. the other sensor has 4-5 wires and is physically longer. it is the one that sends a signal to the dash on the 90-96 cars. hope this helps. not very common for these sensors to go bad in my experience. i would suggest careful wiring inspection, maybe flushing the engine then changing the oil before condemning it.

Bolded is errors on your part!! LT1 I'd say is very different from early SBC
This is an insert from the '92 FSM for location of the senders.
OP - What happens to the 'CHECK GAUGES' light when car is 'running'.
The gauge appears bad also. The gauge should return to zero when not powered. Try disconnecting the battery and see if it returns to zero, if not there could be some wiring issues with the circuit.
