Basic IRS/tranny/suspension Q's
A little background first. I have an '01 Trans Am that I will be installing a C4 IRS into. I've recently been in contact with guys in Colorado that had this done to a 3rd gen F-body (rear suspension is the same as a 4th gen), have seen the work and heard about the awesome results. So, once winter is over and the snow has melted, I'll be having this custom work done on my car.
To the questions. Driveline support beam between the tranny and front differential. Besides the bellhousing, are there any cross-members that support the tranny? With regards to the IRS, the driveline beam function, is it preventing rotation of the differential?
Dog bones: what is their suspension function, to locate the rear wheel centerline? Rear end re-inforcement: I'll be using the Dana44 since my car stock pumps out >310 rwhp, and with my Xmas gift of H+C, at least 380+ rwhp. For high hp or torque apps, have you re-inforced any aspect of the rear end, and if so, how?
Thanks, Dave '01 Trans Am, '91 GTA

The dog bones that you mention are probably the trailing arm links. The purpose of these is to control somewhat of a "centerline" of the wheel as you mention, but it is more related to keeping the wheel camber intact through upward and downward motion of the wheel as well as providing additional fore and aft bracing of the IRS.
The mounting points and the amount of fabrication required to a Vette IRS into an F-bod is pretty intense... Good luck with it! :steering:
