Default Oil Temperature - 1994 base

Hi Everyone. I just picked up a well used and neglected 1994 base corvette 6 speed.
I am experiencing an odd condition when driving with the Oil Temp gauge. The digital temp looks great, but the analog one is maxed out. The needle does move when I power the car off. I was wondering if anyone knows if the temperature is gathered from two locations?
I have already replaced the Oil Temperature Sensor located above the oil filter with an AC Delco sender.

Obligatory Car Picture:

Picture of the issue:

Thank you in advance.

Worst case, spun bearings.

Best case could be a lot of different things.

Well used and neglected doesn't sound good.

Maybe get an infrared reading on it. Hit the oil pan, block, thermostat housing, etc with it.

If you dont have one, they're cheap at Harbor Freight.

Do you all believe it is a defective sender as well?
Here is what my Google-Foo found: https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...my-94-lt1.html

Looks like the AC Delco sender might be reading the wrong electrical output causing the gauge issue.

First thing you should do is check codes on it.

Hi Natty,

Thank you for the response. I found some historic codes which led me to replace the icm, o2 sensor, and the oil temp sensor.

I will have to check again to see if there are any new ones after this morning drive.

Oh, I see. You didn't mention you'd already done that.

It could be a lot of things, as I'd mentioned. Could be an electrical issue, or it could be a clog, oil pump, pickup, bad filter, and a long list of other little trivial things.

Already mentioned worse case scenario.

Sender is pretty routine maintenance. Can't hurt I guess. They're cheap enough. Stick with AC Delco, though.

Maybe check your coolant temp sensor, too. Check for debris between your radiator.

I'd still hit it with an infrared temp reader though.

Anyway. I have a '90 with an L98, so maybe wait for others to chime in who own the later models before throwing any more parts at it. They'll lilkely be more help to you.

Looks like a nice car, though.

From reading through the forum it looks like a single sensor, but 2 of the 4 outputs go to different places. One is the digital gauge and the other is the analog.
AC Delco and GM have stopped manufacturing the part and I have used a Standard brand sensor and ended up with a maxed out Analog Temp gauge.

I plan to reinstall the original Temp sensor and see if that resolves the issue.

The original sensor is beyond use as the plastic fitting the wires plug into is deteriorated. It looks like AC Delco doesn't manufacture this part any longer. The digital gauge reads correctly, but the analog doesn't.
It also looks like there is two wires, not four on this sensor and same as on the car wiring.
