Well if you have just a collapsed lifter then you could just replace it. If something because of it caused damage to something else, then its another story. :)

Default Lifter Failure

As long as you don't have a Super Ram, replacing the lifters is not that difficult. I just went through that when the number 8 area lifter was clicking away like a slot machine giving change. HT2148 are the one's I replace my OEM 108,000 mile one's with.

Take the old one's out, coat the new one's with some assy lube,re-install, prime the motor, re-assemble the motor and you ought to be good to go(did that sound too easy? :D )

Keep us posted. I have pics of this process if you like, e mail me.

Like everyone else has said, just put in a new set of lifters. They run about $240 for the set for the hydrualic rollers (for an LT1 at least). I have changed mine in about 4-5 hours. Worst part is cleaning on the intake surface to put the intake back on with a new gasket.

Scorp, in one of your earlier notes you mentioned a source for the 4/3 OD switch for an 85 in the shifte lever, thanks Frank

Ok, 1985 is an on/off switch instead of a momentary switch like 86-88.
http://www.newark.com

P/N
61F752 : On/Off switch for 85 : $7.79
61F753 : Momentary switch for late 86-88 $11.00

This I think will take you to the page with them, otherwise just pop in that part number up top into their search field.

You do not HAVE to have your heads reworked, you do not even have to pull the heads to swap the lifters. Now, if you WANT to have some work done to the heads, that is your choice.
