I recently had my AC recharged on my'86 at a shop that turned out to be "shady" so I won't be going back... The problem is that the Evaporator rattles now. Anyone ever delt with this ? Thanks. GW
The rattle started after being at that shop overnight...it sounds like it's from behind the "breadbox" so i guess it could be the Heater Core, but I've never heard of them making noise either...Anyone ?
Nope. Heater cores won't rattle either. Question: All the shop did was recharge your A/C system?
A dropped tool lodged in someplace could rattle. Something that was disconnected and not reconnected -or- reconnected properly could rattle. Since you say it sounds like its inside behind the dash, I would remove the hush panel on the passenger side and start inspecting up in there for anything obvious. Maybe bop on the breadbox while your down there looking to see if you can replicate the noise and try to home in on exactly where it's coming from.
Given what you've said, that'd be where I'd start.
I haven't had a chance to dig into the Dash, Belt Tensioner, or check all the bracket bolts yet; Holidays, weather and all. The car was down for about 3 months waiting to get the Rack & Pinion rebuilt. I knew it was getting low on Freon before It was down, and when I put it all back together the Compressor started cycling...so I took it in. I just thought someone here might have experienced the same. It's new to me and I've had the car 20 years.
