The other morning, I noticed that my temp gauge stopped reading the temperature. It's constantly on "LO". My first instinct was to see if the sensor was working by unplugging the connector and grounding the wire, assuming it would then get the gauge to read its highest reading, but I got nothing. I figured that since these gauges aren't your every day gauges, perhaps I'm missing something in the diagnosis. I checked the shop manual, and they do mention using a special tool for testing, but of course, I don't own one. I'll probably swap the sensor over the weekend, but I'd still like to know if someone has had a similar problem. Maybe I'm missing something here. Any suggestions?
My question is, if it is grounded, wouldn't that cause the gauge to read the highest, or does it operate in just the opposite manner--meaning that if it is grounded, it would read "LO", which makes perfect sense now...
Old ace.You got a sensor supplying info to the computer located in the front of the passenger side head.
You have a sensor in the passenger side head between cylinders 6 & 8.supplying info to the fans.
Finnally you have a sensor in the drivers head between cyld. 1 & 3.Supplies info to the guage.
Your '84 must be different than mine. On my car the sensor the ECM uses is in the Crossfire intake manifold just right of center in the front and facing forward. The other two are the same. My heads don't even have a second hole that would take another sensor. Have you changed heads and/or manifolds?
