My 95 ZR1 needs a door lock actuator on the passengers side. I'm looking for a "how-to" including pictures or video for removal and installation. From what I could tell, removal of the door panel and what appears to be a frame inside the door would be required to access and drill out the two rivets for the actuator, rivet the new actuator in place and reassemble. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
There are some hidden screws holding trim panel. It should come off easy, if there's resistance you probably missed a screw. Plan on lubing linkage also. IMO power lock layout could have been alot better.
You also need 1/4" pop rivits preferably aluminum
On both the door lock actuators and other places you will find the original GM Grease. On my 1988 C4 the grease was hard and more like a putty than grease. It hardens and keeps the actuators from working freely. Be sure to clean this material off the parts while working in there. That grease when cold is more like cement. Being that time of year when when things are colder is when the grease becomes a problem again.
I did this on both C3 and C4 and the door locks and power windows work a whole lot better after getting the old crud off the parts and replacing it with new grease to keep things moving easily. Now the door locks and Power windows work faster and better on both Corvettes. The door lock actuator was the one that was gummed up on the C4 and that showed me the mess of grease that the General used. I did not need a new actuator I just needed to free up the ones I have.
You can use a Hot air gun to soften the old grease then remove it more easily. Good Luck!
The door panel removal was straightforward and I can see the actuator. It doesn't appear to be a grease related issue as I can move the actuator with my finger. Both the driver and passenger door lock switches activate the lock on the driver door but not the passenger door. If I remove the insulator panel from the door is there an inner door "panel"/frame that allows access to the actuator so I can drill rivets and replace? Pictures or video of this being completed would be great but thus far my searches haven't identified any.
