Exhaust pipe dent

Exhaust pipe dent
1992 LT1 factory exhaust.
Have had this car since 2000. When up on my lift I've always noticed a "dent" on the right side exhaust pipe just down stream of the Cat. On the bottom of the pipe. Always thought this was from the previous stoner jumping a curb or something. So last week I cut out the offending "dent" and butt welded in a replacement patch with a piece of exhaust pipe cut an formed to fit.
Now the exhaust sounds like it has a leak. Sooooooooo... I'm quessing this was a factory installed mini resonator? Watched a pant load of Youtube videos and have seen this same dent or crease on all the LT!/LT4's.
Have posted on other forums, called suppliers, NADA.
Any feedback would be appreciated.

Double check your work, it'll probably show up. Can you feel a puff with your hand near the repair?
Fwiw, I had a '95 and took the exhaust off a couple times and never noticed a dent.

The "dent" is on the exhaust pipe assembly just aft of the cat. on the right side bottom, not the tail pipe assembly which comes off in one huge piece.
More specifically between the exhaust to tail pipe slip joint and the cat. No leaks.
