Default Brake relay (locking brakes)

Hello, new newbie c4 owner, first car as well. I recently bought a brake relay (pictured) instead of the correct anti lock relay (relay in compartment behind driver by brake pump if I’m correct?) Does anyone have an idea where the relay below goes and it’s specific function in relation to the brakes? Any help would be appreciated

I believe the 'consensus of opinion' in the C4 Section for sure is to avoid a purchase of anything from that vendor! I never have and do all purchases 'local' or if necessary after much research from a 'known reliable source'! That vendor is NOT a 'known reliable source'!

Have you already purchased or what? If you haven't DO NOT

If you're interested in help, mention year of car and pertinent information for your car and the part requested.

I have, it’s a 86, I can still probably return it, just would be easier if I didn’t have too.

It won't do what you wanted so you could try this: Ask them to give you the OE/GM part # that it replaces. They do reference GM #'s to theirs for most of their products. Your purchase is a very 'generic' relay that will do 'NOTHING' for your '86. The relay you've posted from them can be purchased locally for probably 'one half' of their ask maybe less.

If you paid by Credit Card - 'dispute the charge'!!!!

Not too long ago someone from France I believe posted a video of him tearing down the ABS system on the C4's. The relays should be visible from the top pf the ABS unit as I don't remember any covers over them on my 1988 C4. I have sought a manual or something for the ABS unit from Bosch as they made the system for GM. There is a Cartridge for the SNAP ON MT2500 that will allow you to troubleshoot the anti-lock system, IF you can find one that is. I have been trying for a couple years now.

When the key is first turned on the ABS unit should go thru a start up where it clicks and whirs for a few seconds. Are you getting any faults at this time from the ABS system? Just curious as you ordered a part for it.

The ABS on my C4 was acting really weird until I opened the center console and found a sensor swinging on it's wiring harness. I re-secured it and it the car was normal again. I think it was the lateral acceleration sensor, I might be wrong but it was riveted to the trans tunnel and the rivet rusted out allowing it to send bad information to the ECM.

I am not sure about this particular relay but on the 1988 C4 they use one relay in multiple places. I just keep a spare of that particular relay in the glove box just in case.

This has 'nothing' to do with the OP's 'situation'! The only correction for the 'Vendor False Advertising' for the OP's purchase is some form of $$$$$ refund!

When I first got it I went through and replaced a couple fuses and that stopped the abs light from staying on consistently. Now it only goes on periodically and usually doesn’t stay on after the initial start up. The security system is all messed up and the fuse was just removed the fuse all together when I first got it. Put in my own bypass as it had a no crank no start issue. Brakes only lock up when car is around 10-15 mph give or take. Going to replace the anti lock relay and then take a look at the wheel speed sensors. (Can you clean them? Or when they go they go?)

Factory Service Manual that's used originally by dealer personnel for all diagnostics and repairs.

That isn't considered 'reliable' but I believe for some it's interesting reference!
