Since early cars didnt have the switch in the ****, have any of you adapted a hurst **** or any other cool ****. Would be nice if the shift lever was shorter too.
Absolutely! I put on a T-Handle on mine. Easy purchase from Amazon. You have to take one of the adapters and hog it out to 9/16-18 thread. The adapters are aluminum and it's easy work, but you'll need to put some anti-seize juice on it to keep it from getting stuck on the shifter. I put a ball bearing on top of the reverse collar spring because it wasn't long enough to hold the reverse collar down. You could do it with a small bolt or maybe a washer. Without that, it's too easy to slip the shifter into reverse accidentally. Totally worth doing, and the look gets away from that sports car vibe and into a bit more of a street-fighter look. Enjoy!
I looked in the parts catalog and you may be missing a clip that goes on top of the spring. I don't recall seeing a clip when I took mine apart, and I've pulled that spring all the way out, before figuring out that I didn't need it to come out like that. I've never had it apart like that. It just permits a gate to open up in the shifter body to allow the shifter selector to move into the reverse slider. I found that if I didn't put the reverse selector back together properly, it was WAY too simple to select reverse when shifting from any gear to 1.
