Some quick question. Do the 91-96 mufflers and center sections hang the same way as the 84-90? In the case that you're running long tube headers and doing some welding, just with regards to the mufflers and center sections. For example:
https://www.corvettecentral.com/c4-8...f%3fcount%3d54
Would that hang right from an 1989 with long tube headers mated correctly?
It looks like I would need the later 92-96 hangers. Any links to these parts?
Also what is the difference between that sort of "chambered" pipe vs this "straight" pipe:
https://www.corvettecentral.com/c4-8...f%3fcount%3d27

How much of a difference are the 2 3/4" pipes going to make vs the 2 1/4" pipes of this setup:
https://www.corvettecentral.com/c4-8...f%3fcount%3d72

Goal is eventually a 450 hp 383 so...

The only comment I have is that the later muffler hangers are different.

As far as straight vs chambered, the chambered has small crimps that act as baffling inside the tubing. (Iirc they are both sold and that's exactly what it is through the vendors... you can use that with eliminators for a chambered eliminators)

For 450hp you'd really be pushing it with 2.25 but it could be done. No penalties with a larger exhaust in that size...

So chambered should be a little more tame sounding??
How much power do you think the factory 2.75" GM LT1 catback system can support? How much power might a nice L98 TPI build (long tubes, heads, cam) be leaving on the table with the factory GM LT1 catback vs a true dual system with muffler and center resonator eliminated. Similarly how much power might a Borla LT1 catback system be leaving on the table as compared to a true dual eliminator setup with no mufflers nor center resonator?

Might a 2.25" eliminated setup with no center resonator nor mufflers flow similarly to a 2.5" or 2.75" Borla LT1 Catback or factory GM LT1 catback, both having center resonator and mufflers?

Thanks!

I am trying to balance cost, noise, ease of install, with flow and power capability...

They'll both be pretty loud. Chambered only really attenuates some frequencies. But it depends. There is really no way to say for sure. There are a couple guys on here running chambered exhaust like that though.

You aren't leaving anything on the table (or much for that matter) with an LT system. A stock LT1 system will more than meet your needs.

Again the LT-1 setup is really good, you would be hard pressed to make up the difference in a 2.25 just having it open. And with a 2.5 if you so choose you will have room to grow again. Because we all know the first goal is never enough lol.

Nice, my little brother just picked a complete LT1 catback system off of a forum member after I sent him the for sale thread. His car is a 1985 4+3 with Hedman Elite long tubes that I put on when I was his age.
I told him he needs to get "new hangers" to hang the LT1 exhaust from his 1985 4+3, but I am not sure exactly what parts he needs. Any pointers?

Similarly I am planning on probably getting a 92-96 catback system to put on my 1989 with the ZF6. I am trying to figure out what hangers I need to do this...

There is a Borla catback set for sale on the forum marketplace right now that I am considering. I am worried though that it will be leaving power on the table as compared to a muffler eliminator setup that also has no center resonator, kind of like one of the kits from corvette central.

hey guys....this is what i did on my 89 vertto get a lower idle and a great WOT sound. first is an air foil, then a K&N filter mounted in an 'open' style air box. then i installed a straight pipe. one last thing...i pulled back on the transmission TV cable in the intake manifold all the way. now i get way better solid shifts, way better throttle response, and a nice sound ( no drone or back fires, lower throatier sound ). with the TV cable adjusted, you can actually control the throttle to hold the trans in first or second and upshift with more pressure applied to the gas pedal. all in this was about $350 canadian ( $5 USD....just kidding). let me know if there are any questions!

The LT1 exhaust hangers are what you need to use that exhaust on an L98 car. I can't speak for the 4+3, but the 700r4 has a spot where the stock LT1 bracket can bolt to. It might even be the same spot the L98 hanger bolted to but I don't know that for sure. https://www.corvettecentral.com/3241...gaApXTEALw_wcB

The rear hangers that bolt to the diff are a little hard to come by, the good news is, the C5 and C6 corvette use identical hangers.

Looks like Corvette Central has caught on to this fact https://www.corvettecentral.com/3240...YaAktbEALw_wcB

As many have stated its subjective. I personally had LT headers, no cats and a Flowmaster cat back. No drone was a blessing, but I also had an automatic with 3.73 gears, which kept me out of that drone rpm, which is about 1800rom to 2000 rpm, for most of the driving I did. .
