I've recently gotten my '85 running after having sat for 20+ years! I have drained the fuel tank cleaned it and refilled with new high octane gas. I then ran some through the lines and changed the filter. Car needed a bit to get running but sounded good. After a couple weeks now, it stopped starting at all even with starting fluid, which made me believe that the injectors were probably bad. I took the time to take the entire fuel rail apart and discovered gummed up and rusty injectors. Replaced them with some cheap reman ones in hopes to see some results before dropping the big bucks, and put everything back. The fuel rail pressure seems much higher than before based on the fuel shooting out of the shrader on the rail. But now when I try to start her up, she kind of sputters while cranking or fires real quick and shuts right off when I let go. I don't want to open everything up again in this cold weather, so any suggestions are highly appreciated.
I forgot to add, I did put new plugs, wires and a new cap and rotor on before trying to start her again for the first time.
It dosent start with starting fluid? That would be ignition not fuel. Do you have spark?
Put a fuel pressure gauge on the rail and see what your pressure is. The one i use i have a valve on it so i can get a fuel sample at same time.. look for water..
Oddly enough, the moment I rented a fuel gauge and put it on I tested fuel pressure at 40psi. And it somehow immediately started running, while still rough. Main issue I'm facing now is that it had backfires and then cleared up with fixing some vacuum problems. Now it will just backfire on giving it gas quickly. I still have to patch and later replace the ripped intake boot. So I'm hoping its that! Thank you for the advice and maybe someone has a tip regarding the backfire!
