Hard starting '89...injectors??
My '89 L98 is hard to start if left longer than 6 hours. It needs to either have the starter cranked for 10-15 seconds or cranked once for 2 secs. then let go and crank again ..then it starts and runs fine. It starts fine if warm, and idles and performs well. It has been tuned to specs with all necessary parts replaced. It has a new fuel pump, relay, fuel pressure reg., starter etc., etc. ....
Any ideas? I thought maybe the injectors are leaking or faulty...stepping on pedal before start makes no difference.

You may have some internal leak that is causing the fuel pressure to drop while the engine is shut off for several hours. When you first try to start the engine, the fuel pump operates for a couple of seconds and then shuts off. The pump then starts operating again after the engine starts (or if the oil pressure is high enough). If you try to start it and the pressure is still too low, it won't start. If you wait 10 seconds and try to start it a second time, the pump will operate for another 2 seconds or so - enough to bring the pressure up enough to get the engine to start. Check the fuel pressure after the engine has been sitting for a long time - it may be very low. You might also turn on the key without cranking the engine for about 2 seconds (you can hear the fuel pump in a quiet environment), turn the key off for about 10 secnds and then try to start the engine. If this works, it is likely a startup fuel pressure problem.

Put a fuel pressure guage on the schrader and turn the key on. See what kind of pressure the car is trying to start on. Still might be a bad check valve in the pump even tho you have replaced the pump.
